A couple of metal pins

I worked on a couple of metal pins for Deryn's jewelry challenge over the weekend: the Woven Windows Pin and Stitched Segments Pin. All of these projects have allowed me to try new techniques, learn a lot and have fun too!

One lucky girl

My sweet friend, Molly Alexander, gifted me with the most amazing necklace I've ever seen! She is truly an inspirational, talented and giving artist and friend and I am lucky to know her. I had been admiring this etched metal booklace on her etsy site and my stars were all aligned because magically it made its way into my hands. She also included one of her famous broken china soldered pendants in my favorite color (green)-THANK YOU SO MUCH, Molly-I will treasure these always!!!

I've been tagged!

Miss Molly http://beautifullybrokenme.blogspot.com/ has tagged me and now I'm it! I have to come up with 6 little funny facts about me :O

Here are the official rules: link to the person (people) who tagged you and mention the rules. Then list six quirky yet boring, unspectacular details about yourself, and tag six other bloggers by linking to them. Next go to each person’s blog and leave a comment that lets them know they’ve been tagged.

Ok, here goes:

1. I'm still a kid at heart at age 43.
2. I love cats and have 3!
3. I tried to collect all of the bears that came out when Beanie Babies were hot.
4. I come from a long line of worriers.
5. I always have to eat something sweet after a meal-and sometimes before :).
6. I can remember certain smells that I love from my childhood, like the old library I used to go to for Story Hour and the yummy plastic smell on my Barbie camper and toys!

I'm tagging:

RAEvN's Nest Art Retreat

I had fun at Kim Rae Nugent's first art retreat in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. I took the Copper Piano Hinge Book class on Friday night (10/17) with Jill Berry and Profound Secrets of the Burnt and Bound on Saturday (10/18) with Bernie Berlin. It was a beautiful time of year in historic Cedarburg in October!

Love Bird

Here is a bird (inspired by Jeanette Janson) (http://www.jeanettejanson.typepad.com) that I made for my mom and dad's 50th wedding anniversary next month-they were high school sweethearts! They both have a love for nature and animals. I used thick chipboard, copy of bird, patina'd copper, rusty wire, vintage school ledger paper, vintage bingo marker, tiny feather, and old button and fabric.

Metal necklaces

Hello,

I posted four metal necklaces that I made during Deryn's on-line summer jewelry challenge (see previous post). They were a lot of fun! It is still open and anyone can join. If time allows I will try making a couple of more pieces.

I've always loved the look of metal in its many forms, colors and playing with different patinas. In addition to the amazing book that Deryn's challenge is covering, Wrap, Stitch, Fold & Rivet by Mary Hettmansperger, there are several other artist's books that go into detail, for example, Metal Craft Discovery Workshop by Linda & Opie O'Brien and Metal Effects by Cheryl Darrow.

Have fun playing with metal!

Deryn Mentock's Summer Jewelry Challenge Project

I know summer is almost over but I couldn't resist doing a few of these projects that Deryn is hosting over on her challenge blog http://http//somethingsublime.typepad.com/jewelrychallenge/. I have admired her work for a long time and hope to some day take a class or two from her, but until then I wanted to try my hand at metalsmithing!
